Heavily SedatedFOR WIVES

For wives

This isn't your fault, and it isn't yours to fix.

If you've found out about your husband's porn use or sexual secrets, you may feel shock, anger, grief, numbness, or all of it in one hour. You may be replaying the past and wondering what was real. None of that means you're overreacting. For many women, discovery hits like a betrayal, and the body and mind respond the way they do to any deep betrayal.

You deserve your own support.

His recovery is his work. Your healing is a separate road, and it matters just as much. You shouldn't have to heal inside his program, through his coach, or on his timeline.

A counselor of your own

Look for a licensed counselor who has specific experience with betrayal trauma and with partners of men struggling with porn or sexual behavior. Ask them directly about that experience when you call.

Safe people

One or two people you trust, who will listen without lecturing or gossiping. You don't owe anyone the whole story. You also don't have to carry it alone.

Your own pace

You don't have to decide anything about the marriage today. Taking care of your sleep, your body, and your safety comes first.

What we will and won't do

  • We coach men. We won't coach you through your husband's coach, and we won't put you in the middle of his program.
  • We won't share what you tell us with him. If you email us, it stays between you and us, except in the safety situations in our Privacy Policy.
  • We'll help you find someone. Email us and we'll do our best to point you toward licensed counselors with betrayal-trauma experience. It's free and doesn't require your husband to be a member.
  • Disclosure belongs with a professional. If you want the full truth about what happened, the safest way is a planned disclosure guided by a licensed counselor, not a late-night confession or an interrogation. It protects you from being hurt again by drip-fed details.

If you feel unsafe

Porn use alone doesn't make someone dangerous. But if your husband threatens you, controls your money or movements, pressures you sexually, or you're afraid of him, that's a safety issue, not a recovery issue.

Call 911 if you're in immediate danger. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is free, confidential, and open 24/7: 1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788. If you're having thoughts of hurting yourself, call or text 988.

If you want to understand what he's facing

Heavily Sedated includes a section written to wives called "A Word to Her." Read it if and when you want to. You're never required to, and reading it doesn't mean you've forgiven anything or decided anything.
